The Time is Right for Safe Summer Travel

Finally, it appears that the time is right for safe summer travel while the pandemic numbers are low and people can safely distance themselves. If you’re thinking of planning a trip, here are a few trends to keep in mind to keep you and your family safe as you embark on your next adventure:

Nearly nine in 10 American travelers have plans to travel in the next six months, a new pandemic high! And for a good reason, we were stuck at home for over a year dreaming of traveling to faraway places. Even if your trip this summer is just a few hours away, you will likely have a renewed sense of gratitude for somewhere new to enjoy!

Dr. Sharon Nachman, chief of the Division of Pediatric Infectious Diseases at Stony Brook Children’s Hospital, said she expects safe summer travel to be possible due to lower infection rates this summer than in the winter. As children begin to qualify for the vaccine, families are at lower risk and that means summer travel is safe if precautions are followed.

Here are a few items to keep on hand to stay compliant with CDC travel guidelines:

  • A properly fitting mask. Make sure your mask is comfortable to wear for long periods and remember to always bring a backup.
  • Antibacterial wipes. Wipe down any surfaces that previous passengers may have touched
  • Hand sanitizer. Easy to use when handwashing is not readily available.

The Price of Travel

Travel prices are increasing but you can still find bargains. With the big travel boom this summer, prices for flights, hotels, car rentals, etc., are growing. But don’t worry, travel discount locators are still working hard to provide travelers with various deals. Check out Scott’s Cheap Flights, Thrifty Traveler, and The Points Guy for insight into where you can save on travel this summer.

Remember that even if the COVID-19 rules in your area may have loosened, social distancing and safety requirements where you’re traveling can vary. Make sure to research the mandates in place before your trip and allow ample time to prepare. You don’t want to remain at home after being denied entry to your destination!

Get Ready to Travel

Keep all of these in mind as you prepare for your pending travel plans. Remember that safe summer trips can occur even if you haven’t planned your trip yet. Have a safe, healthy, and fun summer vacation, wherever your destination!
